Oh boy...Do you know the feeling of trying to stop a tank with your bare hands? Me neither. But Astralis certainly felt something very similar last night against Na'Vi. Only the name of this juggernaut tank was "s1mple".
After what he did to team Liquid in the quarter finals of IEM Katowice 2020 just a day before, we thought we've seen it all. We thought we've seen s1mple at the peak of his performance. I mean seriously, a 1v4 clutch with his trusty AWP, a humiliating 360 no-scope, an insane 1v2 clutch all in a single match? How can that be surpassed? But boy were we so much mislead. If against Liquid it was about "some frags", then against Astralis it was an entire frag movie.
Na'Vi beat Astralis 2-0 but this was no ordinary win, this was an underdog team completely humiliating the number 1 team in the world. I can't even remember when was the last time I saw one single player dominating an entire team, let alone the world's best team.
In the very first map which was de_dust2, picked by Na'Vi themselves, they beat Astralis 14-1 in the first half. This, by itself, is an achievement. A team, which is known to usually dominate other teams, gets 14-1 slapped on their faces in the first half which eventually lead to 16-5 win for Na'Vi. But, it's not only about the wins, but more about the way s1mple was toying with the number 1 team in the world. He made them look like somewhat of a joke and that shows quite clearly in s1mple's 2.3 kdr.
Well, the second map de_nuke which was picked by Astralis and which is by far their strongest map, wasn't much of a different story. Na'Vi beat Astralis 13-2 in the first half and this was more than enough to shatter the morale of Astralis. Although the final score was 16-5 for Na'Vi here as well, but it seemed like Astralis won the 5 rounds because Na'Vi was just trolling them.
Of course it is a team game and the contribution of the Na'Vi team cannot be praised enough. As s1mple himself said that this is the best Na'Vi team he has ever seen "100 percent". Be that Boombl4's extra smart play, Perfecto's clutch situations, flamie's brave opening frags which includes the ace in 3 seconds or electronic's outstanding shooting, everything combined, this Na'Vi looks deadly.
But in the end it all comes down to the man himself. It is such a privilege to witness CS:GO being played at the peak of its potential and s1mple the man is bending the game to his own will. Producing moments that make you scream "S1MPLE STOP IT! YOU CAN'T DO THAT!".
I would not even dare to start counting all the godlike plays he had against the number 1 team, otherwise I might have to write down the entire game. But one thing is certain that we are seeing an absolute God of the game in his prime. For years now we have known Na'Vi to be the team which gets carried by s1mple. But, certainly things have changed recently and with this kind of team support, we might finally be able to see how far s1mple can push the boundaries. The true potential of the God himself.
