Thomas Shelby or Tommy Shelby or Tom Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy , is one of the best characters in the World of Television Series.
A tough and bold character who is second eldest sibling of the Shelby family and is also the leader of the criminal group "Peaky F***ing Blinders" based in Birmingham in 1919. Tom Shelby is a former soldier who won two gallantry medals in the war. After returning from the war Tom leading his whole family did some real odd jobs for money and recognition and in the process made some great enemy to make their already tough life more tougher.
Tom Shelby, a character who trusts very few people and opens up what he is upto to even fewer, can kill anybody for his family and even ready to get killed for them. He is a man who had his heart broken twice, first before the war in France he was in love with Greta Jurossi who died of illness. Tom lied before her bed for three months before she died and then he went to the war. Secondly, he married a former undercover agent, Grace Helen Shelby, who was shot dead during a party by order of Vincete Changretta. Tom has two children a son, named Charles ( from Grace) and a daughter Ruby ( from Lizzie ).
As defined by people Tom before the war was a lover boy and also a communist who believed in equality but the war completely changed him and gave him a permanent post war trauma, which he tries to hide from everybody. He has a fascination for horses and thus captured and took the whole racing scenario under his wing. A character that will capture each and everything that fascinates him and make it his own. All he wants from life is to earn a lot of money and to get into such a position that nobody can even think of touching him. He is a character whose only goal is to get to the top and for that he would not think twice before deceiving someone or gang who has a diplomatic relation with the Peaky Blinders. He likes keeping secrets from his family hoping to bring less trouble to them. Tom cares the most for his family and always tries to keep them out of trouble and for that to happen, he can do anything possible, even would put his entire family on verge of execution and save them in the very last minute. He also is a double agent of the Government, who takes direct order from Churchill and the King. Tom is a hub of confidential information and has enough to trouble the British Government, that the King was forced to give him OBE aswell as the position of MP. He is also a very charming character who has the capability to get into any woman's bed and believes that it is the only way to earn trust of a woman and get information out of her without any abuse. He is someone who pretends to believe in equality in men and women but in reality considers only few woman equal to the men, only those who he believes actually deserves it.

Some sources suggests that Tommy Shelby is Kevin Mooney ( The most powerful man in Peaky Blinders), whose real name was Thomas Gilbert but occasionally changed names.
It will be very interesting to see how the makers of Peaky Blinders develops the already big character further.
