This year was surely a good departure for bengali cinema as one of the finest directors of tollywood srijit mukherjee came up with another offbeat content 10 years later naming Dwitiyo Purush after his blockbuster poetrical thrillar baishey srabon .This film which a major number of audience mistakenly took as a sequel is rather a spin-off of the cult classic(baishey srabon) . Dwitiyo purush sets a whole new parameter for bengali cinema , breaking the steriotypes .Starting from" jol ta ek thak, chokh duto bodle jay , chumu ta k thake thont duto bodle jay" to "kotha ta Faltu noy babu Phaltu" Mukherjee knew how to blend the uttermost cynicism. There's thrill , there's violance and there's love .
The story is based on the 1993 gangwars taking place in China Town of Kolkata and later leading to several  murders.Twenty five years later following the similar pattern murders again convulse the city.
Abhijit pakrashi (parambrata chattopaddhay) is seen to being incharge of the case who is joined by Rajat (Gaurav chakraborty) in the venture . As the inspection progresses we notice  the bitter sweet equation that abhijit and rajat shares is intrestingly equivalent to  Prabir roy choudhury and abhijit from Baishe srabon. On the other hand we behold the brittle married life of Amrita and her husband while she uses a quite harsh term "lousy" sex to define their married life. The witty dialouges from  abhijit when he schools amrita on "bangla bhasa and mutton kosha" cannot be disregarded.

Srijit's facination for exploring different sides of kolkata leads us to the world of underworld goons that is independently directed by khoka. This single character in dwitiyo purush breaks out as the toastmaster and controls the whole show just as Roy chowdhury from Baishey srabon . We can witness the same rage as both their dialouges "maalik k giye bol khoka eseche" and "Prabir babu na , Sir !" causes a chill down the spine.

Then there are usual elements in mukherjee's film that makes it more enduring. From surya's (Abir chatterjee's) bhat daal r biriyani banter to chicken chowmin and chilli fish , Mukherjee's art somehow found its way . Now talking about the most intriguing part of the show is the climax which hits harder than Baishey Srabon and brings us at the edge of our seat . The dark dystopic terrains and the prolific sub plots might be monotonous during the first half but will surely make up for the big reveal.

Soumik haldars camera does a magnificint job in broadcasting the underbelly of the tannaries of china town .The razor sharp dialouges from the junior khoka and paltan (Rwitobrata and soham) completely redefine their screen presence as well . Despite not having a long  presence of  Ankita on screen (Ridhima ghosh)   her 'Petrichor' surely contemplated our mind. And out of all the background score and the music plays a significant role for most part of this film. The transition from tumi lege 'acho' to 'chile' or Abar fire ele is surely heart wrenching and Anupam roy is worth giving a bow.

Overall, dwitiyo purush in my opinion is an amalgamation of thrill , love and venture as an independant bengali thriller and an efflorescence in the culmination .
