"Yaad hain hum jab yaha aye the toh kitne daare huye the ? "

Priyanka banerjee's razer sharp direction potrayed society's disturbing reflection through her 13 min short film 'Devi' . With an amazing starcast and prolific actors the film untangles the awful violences women go through atleast once in their lifetime .  Irrespective of age, religion, lifestyle and clothes its a tale of suffering , a tale of sisterhood and a tale of truth.

The film starts with over fifteen women in a single lodge having a debate about whether the person standing outside the room is to be let in or not . To the point where we witness that each women belong from different social strata but share the same misfortune ; being a victim of Rape . Now the arguments rises on who gets to stay inside is either Based on the age of the rapist(s) or the suffering of the victim.

Kajol's saying that "har din koi nayi ladki aayegi , kitno ko bahar rakhenge" signifies how frequently rapes occur . The Pee sound produced from the television signifies another Rape victim . From marital Rape as told by maushi who was married at the age of 12 to a girl who's head was smashed with rock after being raped played by Yashaswini dayama or the one burnt alive i.e Mukta barve - who did suffer more ? No story is less horrendous or traumatizing.  Starting from Kajol who is seen to be a piestistic women to a dolled up girl Shruti haasan or Shivani raghuvanshi playing an aspired doctor or  Neha dhupia potraying a corporate work women and inspite being earnestly unlike each other end up sharing the same fate. Devi sheds a light on how women are being the prey in their own society and family .

We also witness the dysfunctional television that actually symbolizes the flawed Indian media . And through their disagreement kajol welcomes another Young doll among the Dead souls into their virtual world of justice .

With a nuanced performance and endangered character , Devi is not an easy piece for its viewers and is indeed a thought provoking film . Through this short piece we find out that every 22 min. a women gets raped in India and the conviction rate for them just stands at 32% . The intrigued performances made us visualize the different shades of brutality and how helpless our society becomes during a crime like sexual violence .

But among all the contemplation we found out that Devi was a plagiarised piece that was taken from FOUR , also a short film created by Abhishhek Rai , a student of Asian Academy of  Film and Television . But the point should be that films like this should be made another multiple number of times until the Men and the judicial system wakes up .
